“Do Well While Doing Good,” the CWIP May Friday Share

May 14, 2021

Article by Michele Gustin, CWIP Communications Committee Member

On Friday, May 7th, 2021, CWIP members and presenters Savannah Boren and Sarah McCarron hosted a well attended virtual morning event to discuss and share sustainability investment practices employed at their workplace JP Morgan Chase. They offered insights and busted some common myths about sustainable investing for both private and not for profit sectors.

Sarah shared her expertise and gave a grand tour of sustainable market trends and surprised me with her statistics about how the “do gooder” investment market is a solid trend that shows stability and profitability for the future.

Savannah shared her own personal experience as a personal investor with the group and asked poignant questions that facilitated our group engagement. As the presentation was geared toward multiple levels of investor knowledge please see below link to watch the action and garner important information about how social change is making a difference even in the financial world, and please contact Savannah or Sarah to learn more. Here are some of my key takeaways:

  • When I invest with intention and align to my personal and company’s values I am in fact mitigating risk
  • ESG investing is finding companies with ESG ratings for their Environmental Social & Governance practices
  • ESG companies show higher profitability and less volatility in the new market trends
  • Ongoing market volatility and sideways trades warrant an advisor with broad exposure to an index and advocates active management practices.
