Join CWIP...On The Run!
Chicago Women in Philanthropy Partners with Girls on the Run 5K for a Volunteer Day.
Get ready to dust off your running shoes. CWIP will be volunteering at this year’s New Balance Girls on the Run – Chicago 5K presented by the Chicago Fire. We need your help for this girl-powered event on Nov. 12, 2011 at Toyota Park. Bring your spirit and loudest cheers to support GOTRC.
CWIP members can participate in the following ways:
- Register to run. GOTRC places girls with running buddies because many do not have family members or adult friends willing or able to complete the 5K. If interested, check the box indicating your interest on the organization's online registration form. Adult registration is $35.
- You don’t need to be a runner to participate. Volunteer on the day of the race as a representative of CWIP. Sign up using CWIP’s online registration form below by Nov. 1, 2011 and we’ll take care of registering everyone as a group with GOTR.
CWIP/Girls on the Run 5K Volunteer Day
Date: November 12, 2011
Time: 8:00 am or TBD
Information about volunteering:
• Arrival times will vary on the station assigned, but expect to meet between 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the volunteer check-in tent for race day instructions. The race is at Toyota Park, 7000 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview, Ill. All volunteers will be given a GOTRC T-shirt or a hat to wear during the event.
• There will be an all-volunteer training session for 60 to 90 minutes on Nov. 9. Exact time and location information is TBA. Training is not mandatory but encouraged so volunteers get to meet the captains for each station and learn about safety procedures, the 5K timeline and the duties of each position.
About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run – Chicago is an active CWIP member that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running – complimenting CWIP’s mission to serve women and girls.
The nonprofit was established by five women in 1999 with 30 girls participating in two program sites.
“Girls on the Run Chicago is proud to be a member of CWIP for its outstanding networking events, learning opportunities and ability to connect women in all areas of philanthropy throughout Chicagoland," says Betsy Armstrong, executive director, Girls on the Run Chicago.
Since then it has grown dramatically to 191 sites with over 4,000 girls. During training, the girls learn positive life skills geared towards their emotional, social, mental and physical development. Every lesson satisfies the State of Illinois’ Standards for Social and Emotional Learning and/or Physical Development and Health.
Volunteer Day
The GOTRC event marks CWIP’s Volunteer Day, where we spotlight what our members are doing by volunteering at their events. This provides our organizations with additional support and awareness – and it serves as a fun outlet for CWIP members to network. Members should contact us if they would like to be a part of this exciting new program.
