CWIP's Courage Centered Dialogue Series

On the Path Towards Racial Consciousness

The first program in our series will feature educator, writer, and facilitator Stacey A. Gibson.

Stacey A. Gibson works in Chicago supporting those who have a vested interest moving beyond 'diversity' conversations to exploring and articulating how patterns of race based oppression shape interactions, institutions, and opportunity.  Her past writing has appeared in Lee MunWah’s Let’s Get Real and she has created and published anti-oppression curricula for Teaching Tolerance for the award winning documentaries The Dhamma Brothers and American Promise. Her upcoming writing on interracial friendships will appear in the 2017 anthology Uncommon Bonds and her writing has been featured multiple times in ASCD Express.  Her essay, Sourcing the Imagination: Ta-Nehisi Coates’ s Work as a Praxis of Decolonization appeared in the special edition of English Journal in March 2017. She would like to thank the nameless ones who preceded her as she knows she could not be without them.

Participants will leave with:

·         A personalized reflection document outlining their own racial awareness

·         Greater confidence speaking about race and racialized behaviors

·         A resource list to help participantson this journey

·         A shared experience and communityto discuss racial identity, issues, and development

All experience levels are welcome to participate and will benefit from this discussion. Join us!
