2012 Making A Difference Award Recipient
Aurie Pennick is the Executive Director and Treasurer of the Field Foundation of Illinois, where she is responsible for over 60 million dollars in foundation assets. Aurie has a B.A. and M.A. in the Administration of Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a J.D. from John Marshall Law School. Aurie began her career in philanthropy as a fellow in the Chicago Community Trust's Minority Fellowship Program. She went on to hold the position of Assistant Director for Special Grants with John D. and Catherine MacArthur Foundation.
Before returning to philanthropy, Aurie was the Managing Attorney Administration for the Chicago Transit Authority's Legal Department. Later she was the president and CEO of the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities, founded by Dr. King in 1966. She co-authored an article on affordable housing in the book New Chicago published by Temple Press.
Aurie has been the recipient of numerous awards and appointments. Aurie's oral history is documented on The History Makers website at www.thehistorymakers.com.
A native Chicagoan, Aurie serves on the board of trustees of the Field Museum and Rush University Medical Center. She is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Economic Club.
